FAQ
How many sessions do people usually need?
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, as everyone's circumstances and goals are different. Some people come with a specific issue they'd like support with over a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns or ongoing challenges.
During our first session, we'll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you'd like to achieve, and what approach is likely to be most helpful. We'll review your progress regularly and decide together how many sessions feel right for you.
My aim isn't to keep you in therapy longer than you need. It's to support you in making meaningful, lasting changes so that you feel confident to move forward when the time is right.
What if i'm having relationship problems but my partner doesn't want to attend?
It's very common for one partner to feel more ready for therapy than the other. If your partner isn't willing to attend at the moment, don't let that stop you from seeking support for yourself.
Individual therapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of your relationship, recognise unhelpful patterns, strengthen your boundaries, improve communication, and make informed decisions about what you want moving forward.
Sometimes, when one person begins to make changes, the relationship dynamic can begin to shift. While there are no guarantees that your partner will choose to attend therapy, focusing on your own wellbeing can have a positive impact on both you and your relationship.
If your partner does become open to therapy later, we can discuss whether couples therapy would be the right next step.
Do I need to have a specific problem to come to therapy?
Many people seek therapy because something doesn't feel quite right, even if they can't put it into words. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes people come because they want to understand themselves better, improve their relationships, or make positive changes in their lives.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss what you'd like to achieve, and begin building an understanding of your experiences. There's no pressure to share everything straight away, we work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important parts of therapy. That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions, talk about what you're looking for, and decide whether I feel like the right fit for you.
What are your fees and what is your cancellation policy?
My current fees are available on the Therapy Services page of my website and will also be discussed when you book your initial appointment, so you'll always know the cost before starting therapy.
Payment is due before your session.
If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, I ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed appointments, are charged at the full session fee, as your appointment time has been reserved exclusively for you and it is often not possible to offer it to someone else at short notice.
I understand that unexpected situations can arise, and if you're unsure about anything, please feel free to get in touch. I'll always do my best to be fair while maintaining a consistent policy for all clients.
